Milngavie – Drymen
The Start of the West-Highland-Way
The day before we walked to the railway station in Milngavie. On this day, our host gave us a lift. First we bought the inevitable midge repellant. We were slightly puzzled to read “skin lotion” on the bottle, but we have been assured that even the british army uses the product.
When we posed for the obligatory photo at the start of the West-Highland-Way it started to rain. How lucky we were.
We started the way at quite a fast pace, we thought. Anyway, we were overtaken by some obviously well trained walkers.
Glengoyne Distillery
Our first and only stop was Glengoyne Distillery. We had our lunch packet and thought about taking the tour of the distillery. After a look at the watch we decided against the tour and opted for a short look for souvenirs in the shop, before continuing our way towards Drymen.
To Drymen
With the Sun being undecided wether to shine or wether to hide behind the clouds we easily reached the 16 kilometer mark. The last three kilometers were a lot harder. The way did get just a bit steeper and went a bit up and down. That was enough for our bodies to think: “Stop!” We had to get to Drymen anyway and overheard our bodies’ whining and just went on. Arriving in Drymen we wondered how much farther we had to go and had a look in our papers. To our surprise we already stood right across the street of our B&B. It was just in time as the B&B anticipated their guests to arrive by four o’clock.
Drymen is a very small village and therefore the choice of a place to eat was quite simple. It was the hotel at the center square just beside our B&B.
Harz 2009
We have been invited for a birthday party in Wolfsburg. As the party was on May 1, we took the opportunity to add a hiking tour in Harz mountains.
The track was around Ilsenburg. Here are some impressions I caught along the way.
If you happen to be interested in the GPX-route we took, read on.
