Tim Bray about OOXML (ISO/IEC 29500 versus ECMA-376)
My colleague at Sun Tim Bray has written a quite interesting blog about the new standard ISO/IEC 29500 and compares it to the standard ECMA-376. The latter is implemented by Word 2007. Tim points out the question which standard a developer should implement. His answer is clear: If you want your implementation to be accepted by the public, follow the standard follow by the broadest implementation base. That will be ECMA-376.

OpenOffice.org Conference 2007 Barcelona
I will be attending OOoCon 2007 in Barcelona. That being interesting enough, I will also give a presentation together with Oliver Specht and Fridrich Strba. The title of the presentation will be New Filter for MS Word: Handle Many Formats Like One. As the title suggests we will be talking about the new filter for importing Microsoft Word’s formats into Writer.
More information about the conference can be found here..
The slot for the presentation is on September 20th at 15:00 hours. You can find the abstract here.
I’m Blogging on GullFOSS
I started blogging on GullFOSS.
I am working in the Writer team at StarOffice/OpenOffice.org with responsibility for the current filter for Word formats. We are also developing a new filter for these formats. This new filter is the subject for my corporate blog entries.
